Almshouses in Richmond: History, Heritage and Community

Our speaker, Juliet Ames-Lewis, Chief Executive of The Richmond Charities, looks back over 400 years at how Richmond has helped and supported elderly residents of the borough in need of housing. The first were Queen Elizabeth’s Almshouses, built in 1600 to house eight poor aged women; they were originally located in Petersham Road, and later rebuilt in The Vineyard.

A celebration of Richmond’s 20th-century Architecture

Whilst Richmond is justifiably renowned for its fine 18th-century architecture, its 20th-century architecture and design deserve equal attention. Paul Velluet, President of the Richmond Local History Society and a former Chair of The Richmond Society presents the best.
